Building Safety Regulator changes approach
The Building Safety Regulator has announced a more proportionate and targeted approach to Building Assessment Certificates for higher-risk buildings, intended to provide greater support for dutyholders while maintaining building-safety standards.
New Chair for BSR Residents’ Panel
The Building Safety Regulator announced on 19 August the appointment of a new Independent Chair of its Residents’ Panel. The panel is intended to ensure residents’ views inform the regulator’s work and approach to building safety.
Are we ready for the Building Safety Act?
Recent research from Barbour ABI and GS1 UK found that only 21% of more than 300 construction professionals surveyed considered themselves fully prepared to comply with the Building Safety Act. The research also highlighted continuing challenges around the Golden Thread and construction-product information.
ASFP updates passive fire guidance
The Association for Specialist Fire Protection has revised its Guide to Passive Fire Protection for Fire Risk Assessors, including enhanced information around the inspection of fire doors and external walls.
More new guidance from ASFP
The ASFP has also published three new Advisory Notes and updated another, covering subjects including partial penetrations, UKCA marking, smoke seals used with active fire curtains and flexible-wall systems for service penetration seals.
Building Safety Levy approaching
The new Building Safety Levy is due to come into force in October 2026, requiring residential developers to contribute towards the cost of addressing building-safety defects. Housebuilders have recently called on government to delay its introduction, arguing that the additional cost could affect development viability.
